Line items that surprise people
Electrical panel capacity is the big one. Good shops flag it at the site visit rather than at change-order time.
Condensate handling is small money that prevents big damage. Every indoor unit makes water, the water needs a freeze-proof path out, and in a finished space that can mean a small pump.
Old-system removal varies by what is down there. Draining and hauling an oil tank out of a Bayside basement is its own line, and quotes differ on whether it is included. Ask, in writing.
